The Forts of Puebla
The Fort of Loreto and the Fort of Guadalupe are two buildings that you definitely have to see in your next visit to Puebla. This forts are an essential part of the history of Puebla, famous for being the scene of the Battle of Puebla.
These structures, located on the hill of San Cristobal, were built by Franciscan monks in the 16th century and later became the property of the Betlemites, who built a large temple there. In 1816 these constructions became military forts trying to prevent attacks from insurgents during the Independence of Mexico. In 1862, these constructions were the scene of the Battle of Puebla, serving to defend the city of the French army that did not manage to overcome the Mexican army.
Nowadays these forts can be visited inside the Park of Forts, built on the 150 year anniversary of the Battle of Puebla.
